evoLeadGate: first steps

This guide takes one form from nothing to working. You need the extension installed and checked as described in Requirements and installation.

1. Upload the file to the private folder

The file you want to hand out must be in images/evoleadgate-privado/. If you leave it in another folder, anyone could download it without using the form, and the form will not work (see below).

  1. Open Content → Media in Joomla.
  2. Go into the evoleadgate-privado folder and upload the file.

You can also upload it from the element's own file picker. The folder and its files show up in the picker; the .htaccess does not.

2. Add the "Lead magnet" element

  1. Open the page in the YOOtheme Pro builder and add a new element to a column.
  2. Search for Lead magnet.
  3. You will see a note saying the preview does not send data from the editor. That is expected: the form only submits on the published site.

The element's labels are in Spanish, even if your site is in another language. YOOtheme does not use Joomla's language files for them. This guide gives the Spanish label with an English gloss where needed.

3. Configure the form

The element is organised in tabs. The minimum is in the first two.

  1. Formulario (Form) - ID del formulario (form ID): a unique identifier with no spaces, for example guia-seo-2026. It is used in the lead panel and in the analytics events. Without it, the form does not work. - Campos adicionales (extra fields): the email is always requested. Add the rest here with Add item; each field has a label, a type (text, phone, dropdown or checkbox), whether it is required and, depending on the type, placeholder text or options. - Archivo de descarga (download file): pick the file from the private folder.
  2. Textos (Texts): title, description, button text and success message. If you leave the button or the message empty, the default texts of the site language are used.
  3. Entrega y avisos (Delivery and notices): choose between instant download with an email or email only (double opt-in), and enter the notification emails.
  4. Consentimiento (Consent): privacy text, a link to your policy and, if you want it, the marketing text. If you leave the marketing text empty, the checkbox is not shown.
  5. Analítica (Analytics): event names. The defaults are generate_lead and Lead.

Each option is described in the Reference.

What the editor warns you about

In the preview, the element shows warnings when something is wrong:

  • the form ID is missing;
  • no file has been chosen;
  • the file is not in images/evoleadgate-privado/;
  • there are more than 20 fields (the extra ones are ignored);
  • a dropdown has no options;
  • there are no extra fields (only the email will be requested).

If the file is missing or not in the private folder, the form is not shown on the published site.

4. Choose how the file is delivered

Mode What the visitor sees What they get by email
Instant download and email A download button after submitting the form. An email with the download link.
Email only (double opt-in) A message saying the link has been emailed. The download link. The lead's email is marked as verified the first time they open the link.

In both modes the link expires (7 days by default, adjustable in the options).

5. Publish and test

  1. Save and publish the page.
  2. Open the published page, fill in the form with an address of yours and tick the privacy checkbox.
  3. Go to Components → evoLeadGate. The lead appears in the list; open it to see its fields, the consents, the attribution and, after a download, the download history.
  4. Look at the email status column. If it says failed, check Joomla's mail settings.

If you open the page with UTM parameters (for example ?utm_source=newsletter), the lead keeps the source.
