Licences and updates
What you are buying
The extension code is GPL. What we sell is access to downloads and updates for 12 months from purchase. Each purchase creates a subscription to that extension in your shop account. Prices are on Pricing; the terms of sale are in Terms and licence.
There is one subscription per customer and extension. If you already have one, the shop will not let you buy it again. It offers you a renewal or a tier upgrade instead.
Tiers and what counts as a site
The tier sets how many websites you can register under the subscription:
| Tier | Websites |
|---|---|
| 1 site | 1 |
| 5 sites | up to 5 |
| Unlimited | no limit |
A website is one of your clients' sites (or your own). We store only its production domain. Each website has one production licence and, if you want it, one development licence. The development licence does not take a second slot.
Local environments need no licence and take no slot: localhost, 127.0.0.1 and any domain ending in .localhost, .test, .local, .example or .invalid.
The Download ID
Each licence has its own Download ID in this format:
EVO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
A Download ID only works for the subscription (the extension) it was created in, and it is assigned to one domain. You can see it, truncated and with a copy button, on the subscription page under My subscriptions. It is never sent by email: it is generated when you add the website.
Production and development licences
- Production: assigned to the domain of the live site. You set it when you create the website.
- Development: assigned to a subdomain (for example
staging.client.com). It has to be a real subdomain:client.co.ukis not one,staging.client.co.ukis. It also cannot match a production domain in the same subscription. You can add it whenever you like.
Domains are normalised before they are compared: lower case, no https://, no port and no leading www.. IP addresses are not accepted.
Assigned domain
You can change a licence's domain at any time from My subscriptions. Within one subscription, a domain cannot be on two active licences. It can appear in different subscriptions: the same site can use several of our extensions.
If you delete a website, its Download IDs stop working and the slot is freed. If a Download ID has leaked, delete the website and create it again; there is no button yet to regenerate just the key.
Where to paste the Download ID
On the Joomla of each site:
- Go to System → Update Sites.
- Open the extension's update site.
- Paste the Download ID into the Download Key field and save.
You can also paste it in the licence field the extension shows in its options. If you paste it in one of the two places, the extension copies it to the other.
The Download ID is required to download the ZIP. Without it, Joomla can see that a new version exists but cannot download it.
What happens when it expires
The extension keeps working. No evoAddons extension is locked or loses features because of its licence: the licence client only shows a notice in the extension's administration. If the licence server is down, the extension keeps the last known status and works as normal.
What changes at expiry is access. You cannot download versions or receive updates, including versions released before the expiry date, until you renew. If you need to reinstall with an expired subscription, you will have to renew first.
These are the statuses the extension can show:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Valid licence: you receive updates. |
| Expired | The subscription has expired. |
| Revoked | The subscription has been revoked. |
| Domain not assigned | The domain is not the one assigned to that Download ID. |
| No Download ID | It has not been pasted yet. The extension works anyway. |
| Download ID not recognized | The server does not know it. |
| Download ID of another product | It belongs to another extension. |
| Local environment | No licence needed. |
Renewal
A renewal is a new purchase on the same subscription, at the renewal price (see Pricing). It keeps your websites and your Download IDs. The new date is the later of today and the current expiry date, plus 12 months, so renewing early does not cost you the time you had left.
The renewal price is offered from 60 days before expiry until 12 months after. After that, renewal is at the standard price.
You get email reminders with the renewal link 30, 15, 7, 3 and 1 days before expiry, and 1, 3, 7, 15 and 30 days after. Each reminder is sent once per expiry date.
Upgrading the tier
You can move up a tier while the subscription is active. You pay the price difference between the new tier and the current one, prorated by the days left until expiry. The server calculates it and you see the amount before paying. The expiry date does not change. If the subscription has expired, renew it first. Moving down a tier is only possible at renewal.
The bundle
The bundle is a subscription whose licences work for every product it includes, including products added to it later. One bundle Download ID downloads and updates any of them. It renews, upgrades and expires like a regular subscription. Bundle prices are on Pricing.
My subscriptions
Your customer area in the shop. It lists all your subscriptions, active or not, as a grid or a list, with a status filter and a search box. On each subscription page you can:
- renew or upgrade the tier;
- add websites, change domains and delete websites;
- copy the Download IDs and see when each licence was last used;
- download the latest version and earlier ones (only while the subscription is active);
- see your orders and their invoices.
What data the licence server receives
When the extension checks its licence, it sends:
- the Download ID;
- the product;
- the site's domain;
- a site identifier (
site_id), a random UUID the extension generates the first time; - the extension version;
- the PHP and Joomla versions.
This travels over HTTPS. No personal data and no site content is sent. From the check, the server stores on the licence the site identifier, the dates of the first and last check, and the extension version. The extension checks at most once a day, and only when someone opens the extension's administration; if a check fails it retries after 6 hours. The server's response is signed and the extension verifies the signature.
When you download the ZIP, the server records the download together with the IP address it was requested from. What this website processes and for how long is set out in the Privacy policy.
