evoYTAccess: FAQ and troubleshooting
Limits worth knowing
Can I use it to protect confidential content?
No. With Joomla page cache on, and for search and RSS, evoYTAccess is not suitable for protecting confidential content.
- Search, RSS, API and sites without YOOtheme. YOOtheme stores a plain-text copy of the layout in the article. That copy includes every node, including those evoYTAccess removes from the page.
- Page cache. The date, time, device, menu and category rules are cached for guests.
Use it to vary what is shown (a notice for customers, a block per language or date), not to hide information.
Why do date or device rules not change when page cache is on?
With the “System - Page Cache” plugin, Joomla stores the generated page and serves it to guests as it is. evoYTAccess made its decision when the page was generated. User rules do work, because Joomla does not cache pages for logged-in users. If you depend on date, time or device, turn page cache off.
My device rule does not recognise an iPad.
iPads on recent iPadOS identify as a desktop Mac and the server cannot tell them apart. They count as desktop. To hide by screen width only, use YOOtheme’s “Visibility” option.
The category rule does nothing inside a listing.
The rule looks at the page’s category, not at each item in a listing built with dynamic content.
The Access tab labels are in Spanish.
That happens whatever the admin language. YOOtheme does not use Joomla language files inside the Builder, so the labels are written by hand. This is a real limitation. The plugin settings in Joomla are translated (Spanish and English).
Common problems
I cannot see the Access tab.
- Check that the “System - evoYTAccess” plugin is enabled in System → Plugins.
- Check that you use YOOtheme Pro in
templates/yootheme. If the plugin loads and YOOtheme does not, it does nothing. - Reload the Builder without browser cache.
- If you have just installed or updated, clear Joomla’s cache.
- The tab appears on types that already have Advanced. A node type without that tab does not get it.
The DJ-Catalog2 category field is missing.
It only shows when DJ-Catalog2 is installed (when its categories table exists in the database).
I ticked the conditions and the node is still visible in the Builder.
That is expected. By default the preview shows everything so you can edit. To evaluate conditions there too, turn on “Evaluate in Builder preview” in the settings.
The node is still visible on the live site.
- Is “Activar condiciones de acceso” ticked?
- Is at least one rule filled in? With none, the node is rendered.
- Is Acción what you meant? “Ocultar si se cumplen” inverts the result.
- Are you looking at a cached copy? Try without page cache.
- Are you logged in as an administrator and does the rule include you? Try a private window.
- With a menu or category rule, check that the active page is the one you think: the category rule only recognises articles, Joomla category blogs, and DJ-Catalog2 products or listings.
The node disappears for everyone.
With “show only if met”, a node whose rules are not met is hidden. This is common with a category or menu rule on pages that are not of that kind: with no category or no active menu item, the rule is not met.
Installation fails with a version error.
The installer requires PHP 8.1, Joomla 5.0 and YOOtheme Pro 5.0 in templates/yootheme. The message says which one is missing.
I want to know whether my licence is in order.
Look at the plugin’s License tab. A missing, expired or other-domain Download ID does not change what the plugin does; it only affects updates. See licences and updates.
