evoOrigin FAQ and troubleshooting

Frequently asked questions

Does it write to the database as soon as it is installed?

No. Visit logging and lead attribution ship turned off. The only thing that works from the start is capture in the Joomla session.

Does it create cookies?

It creates no cookies of its own. It uses the Joomla session. If you turn on Log only with consent, it reads your banner's cookie, but it does not write any.

Does it store ad click identifiers?

In the database, only if you turn on Store click identifiers. In the Joomla session they are always captured, and they last as long as that session.

What happens to the detail when the period ends?

The scheduled task adds those visits to monthly counters by source, medium and campaign, with no IP or session, and deletes the detail. The counters do not expire.

Can I recover the detail after the purge?

No. Only the anonymous monthly counters remain.

What happens to the IP?

By default it is stored truncated: for IPv4 with the last octet set to zero, and for IPv6 only the first 48 bits. You can choose a salted hash or the full IP. The REST API and the MCP tools always return the truncated IP.

Which legal basis do I need?

Each installation decides that with its own adviser. This documentation takes no position: it describes the data and the periods in Data it handles.

Troubleshooting

No visit appears in the panel

Check, in this order:

  1. Log visits is set to Yes.
  2. If you require consent, the banner cookie is configured and arrives with the expected value. With no cookie configured, nothing is logged and the panel shows a warning.
  3. The session carries an origin. A direct visit with no UTM parameters, no click identifier and no external referer creates no row.
  4. You are browsing the frontend with a normal request. The administrator, non-GET and non-HTML requests, com_ajax, AJAX requests and user agents containing "bot", "crawl" or "spider" do not count.
  5. Your own domain is not being treated as an external origin: add the domains you use to Own domains in the system plugin.

Lead attribution is empty

  1. Store lead attribution is set to Yes.
  2. The extension that creates the lead triggers the onEvooriginLead event. evoOrigin cannot guess it.
  3. refType and refId match the format: letters, numbers, _, . and - (plus : in refId), up to 50 and 100 characters.
  4. The session of the visitor who creates the lead carries an origin.

Another extension does not find the origin in the session

Check the system plugin's Session key. If the other extension reads a specific key, set that same key in evoOrigin.

The panel shows a warning

Warnings flag an inconsistent or risky configuration: consent without a cookie, a full IP kept for more than 90 days, or click identifiers kept for more than 90 days. Fix them in the options.

"(direct)" or "(none)" appears in the statistics

These are the labels for an empty source or an empty medium. It appears, for example, when a visit arrives with a click identifier or a referer but no UTM.

Scheduled task status

The purge runs daily through the "evoOrigin: data purge" task. If it does not run, check in System → Scheduled Tasks that it is enabled and that the Joomla scheduler works on your hosting.

The tables remain after uninstalling

That is expected. The tables are dropped only if you turned on Delete the tables on uninstall before uninstalling. See Uninstalling.
